ExpressLRS Getting Started and Installation Configurator
I. Getting Started
The ExpressLRS team works closely with hardware manufacturers to evaluate and test hardware. Hardware is only officially added to the ExpressLRS Configurator's target device list after passing testing.
If a certain hardware cannot find a corresponding target in the Configurator, there may be several reasons:
- The hardware does not meet the quality or compatibility requirements set by the ExpressLRS project;
- The manufacturer has not cooperated with the ExpressLRS team or chosen not to participate in community collaboration;
- It is a pre-release version or DIY product that only uses the Generic Target.
In such cases, users are advised to contact the hardware manufacturer directly for technical support.
II. Prerequisites
First, you must be proficient in operating your RC transmitter firmware and flight controller firmware.
2.1 Transmitter Port
- Set up your RC transmitter
- Check the firmware version of built-in RF/external RF
- Update the built-in RF/external RF module
2.2 Receiver Port
- Connect the receiver correctly
- Configure the flight controller module
- Check the receiver's firmware
- Update the receiver's firmware
After completing the above work, you can proceed with the following operations: - Bind ExpressLRS
- Perform pre-flight benchmark tests
- Configure other flight controller modules on the RC transmitter
- Begin test flights
III. Installing the Configurator
There are two methods to build and flash ExpressLRS:
- ExpressLRS Configurator (recommended)
- Development Toolchain Setup (for advanced users)
Method 1: Using the ExpressLRS Configurator
Step 1:
Go to the website: https://github.com/ExpressLRS/ExpressLRS-Configurator/releases and select the corresponding installation package for download
It is recommended to use ExpressLRS-Configurator-Setup-1.7.7.exe
Step 2:
Find the downloaded installation package and click Next

Step 3:
Click Browse to select the installation location for the target file. It is recommended to create a new folder on the D drive, then click Install
Finally, wait for the installation to complete. After installation, a program shortcut will appear on the computer desktop.
IV. Common Configurator Options
4.1 Regulatory Domain
Enable the regulatory domain for your region and select the frequency range you need to use
4.2 Binding Passphrase Settings
Entering a binding passphrase allows the receiver and transmitter to bind without interference from other receivers, so it is more recommended that users use a passphrase for binding.
However, please ensure the passphrase is unique and limited to alphanumeric characters. Receivers flashed with firmware versions that do not have binding passphrases enabled will need to use traditional binding methods.
4.3 Network Options
Set it to "WiFi Update" mode to attempt to connect to an existing WiFi network.
Please configure the WiFi settings based on your location when flashing firmware to avoid needing to switch the computer's or phone's WiFi network during the flashing process.
If the device cannot connect to this network, it will create its own network.
