AP 4.5.7 + MP 1.3.83: Sending unknown message (44) in the Messages Tab — Explanation
I. Symptom
After connecting ArduPilot Plane 4.5.7 to Mission Planner 1.3.83, the Messages tab continuously shows the following warning:
Sending unknown message(44)II. Cause
In the MAVLink protocol, message ID 44 is PROTOCOL_VERSION, which is used for MAVLink v2.0 protocol version negotiation.
When Mission Planner connects, it actively sends a PROTOCOL_VERSION message to negotiate the supported protocol version with the flight controller. ArduPilot handles this message differently from what Mission Planner expects, causing the flight controller to reply with "unknown message", which Mission Planner then displays as a warning in the Messages tab.
No action is needed. This warning does not affect normal communication between the flight controller and the ground control station. Mission uploading, parameter read/write, and real-time data telemetry all continue to function normally.
III. How to Disable
If you don't want to see this warning, you can try the following:
- Upgrade / downgrade Mission Planner: Different versions handle this message differently
- Just ignore it: Flight and tuning are not affected
