ELRS Transmitter/Module Receiver Binding
I. Principle
ExpressLRS (ELRS) is a high-performance, low-latency open-source remote control protocol commonly used in FPV fixed-wing and racing drone systems. Binding is the critical step to ensure proper communication between the RC transmitter and receiver.
II. Equipment Preparation
Hardware
1) Flight Controller: Any of the following flight controllers are suitable for this tutorial: SpeedyBee F405 WING APP / SpeedyBee F405 WING MINI / CoreWing F405 WING V2.
2) RC Transmitter: Using Radiomaster TX16S / Radiomaster Boxer as examples.
3) Receiver: Using SpeedyBee ELRS Nano 2.4G as an example.
4) Antenna: Built-in ELRS module or external ELRS antenna.
5) USB Data Cable: Used to connect to the flight controller.
6) Computer: Used to access web configuration for the antenna or receiver parameters.
III. Specific Operations
3.1 Receiver and Transmitter Firmware Compatibility Rules
- 3.x.x versions: Different minor versions are allowed (e.g., 3.1.1 can bind with 3.1.2).
- 2.x.x versions: RC transmitter and receiver must be exactly the same version (e.g., 2.0.1 must match 2.0.1).
3.2 Confirm Transmitter Firmware Version
- Turn on the RC transmitter, navigate to
MDL→SETUPpage, and enable the built-in or external transmitter.

3.3 Confirm Receiver Firmware Version
- Insert the receiver into the flight controller, power the flight controller using a data cable.

- After powering on the receiver, wait 60 seconds or long press the BAT key for 5 seconds to enter WiFi mode. The receiver status light flashing rapidly indicates it has entered WiFi mode.

- Turn on WiFi on the computer → connect to the ExpressLRS RX receiver WiFi, the default password is lowercase "expresslrs".

- After connecting to WiFi, wait 10 seconds and the browser will automatically open and redirect to the 10.0.0.1 page; if the browser doesn't open automatically, you can directly enter 10.0.0.1 in the browser address bar to access the receiver.

- At the top of the page, you can view the receiver's firmware version.

3.4 If Receiver and Transmitter Firmware Versions Don't Match, Firmware Update is Required
You can refer to this article for the operation: https://docs.corewing.com/plane/ardupilot/settings/rc/elrs-fw-upgrade.html
3.5 Binding Receiver and Transmitter - Method 1: Triple Power Binding
- Connect the flight controller to the computer using a data cable, turn off the RC transmitter.
- Power cycle the receiver three times (keep each power on for about 1 second), at this point the receiver's green light will flash twice per second, entering binding mode.

- Turn on the RC transmitter, navigate to SYS→TOOLS page, enter the ExpressLRS script.

3.6 Binding Receiver and Transmitter - Method 2: Modify Binding Password

- Select MODEL→Set binding password→Click save, after successful save a pop-up will prompt Configuration updated.

- Disconnect the receiver's power supply, turn on the RC transmitter, navigate to SYS→TOOLS page, enter the ExpressLRS script.
